About the project
Fantasy, mapped for readers.
Fantasy Compass is an independent book-discovery project created by Anders B. Christensen. It helps readers find books by the qualities that shape the reading experience, not by popularity alone.
The premise
A recommendation should explain itself.
Two fantasy books can share a setting or a familiar trope and still feel completely different. Fantasy Compass therefore compares tone, pace, prose, romance, magic, darkness, political intrigue, character focus, plot complexity, worldbuilding, audience and reading commitment.
Those distinctions power the book profiles, comparison tool and editorial guides. The score is never intended to replace judgment. It provides a consistent starting point, while every recommendation names both the closest match and the most important tradeoff.
The archive is written in English for an international readership. Its first focus is fantasy, with room for adjacent genres where readers genuinely cross between them.
