Privacy

Privacy policy.

This policy describes the personal data Fantasy Book Compass handles and the choices available to visitors and account holders.

Effective date: October 3, 2026. Data controller: Anders B. Christensen, Denmark, operating Fantasy Book Compass.

Information you provide

If you use the contact form, Fantasy Book Compass receives the name, email address, subject and message you submit. This information is used only to read, manage and respond to your enquiry, correction or privacy request. The submission is stored in the site's private Cloudflare database and an email notification containing those details is sent through Resend to the site operator.

Account information

If you create an account, Fantasy Book Compass processes your email address, an optional display name, account timestamps and authentication information needed to provide and secure the account. Password authentication is handled by Supabase Auth. Fantasy Book Compass does not receive or store your password in readable form.

Technical information

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare may process technical delivery and security data, such as IP addresses, request headers and diagnostic information, to serve and protect the website. Supabase processes authentication, database requests and associated security logs for account holders. Fantasy Book Compass does not run advertising trackers. If you opt in, it also records limited anonymous product events in a separate Cloudflare database to understand whether guides, recommendations and Compass results help readers make a next-book choice.

Compass and reading-profile data

Without an account, the optional Compass stores selected book identifiers, reactions and Matrix preferences in your browser's local storage. This information stays on that device. You can remove it with “Start over” on the taste-profile page or by clearing the site's browser storage.

If you create or log in to an account, the local Compass is imported and stored privately in Supabase so it can be restored and synchronized across devices. This may include books you selected, reactions, optional taste signals, DNF reasons and saved books. Compass reactions and signals are used to calculate and explain your personal recommendations. Saved books are a private reading shelf and do not affect those recommendations. These details are not published as public ratings.

Legal basis and retention

Account and Compass information is processed as necessary to provide the account and synchronization service you request. Security and limited operational records are processed on the basis of legitimate interests in protecting and maintaining the service. Account data is retained until you delete the account, subject to limited backup, security or legal retention requirements. Contact information is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in responding to readers, maintaining editorial accuracy and operating the service. Contact submissions are normally deleted within 12 months unless a longer period is reasonably necessary to resolve the enquiry or meet a legal obligation.

Sharing and international processing

Fantasy Book Compass does not sell personal data. Data is shared only with service providers needed to operate the site, currently Cloudflare, Supabase and Resend (for contact-form notification delivery), or where disclosure is legally required. These providers may process information outside your country under their applicable contractual and legal safeguards.

Cookies and anonymous product analytics

Fantasy Book Compass does not set advertising cookies. The anonymous Compass uses local storage. If you allow anonymous product analytics, the site stores a random browser journey identifier so it can connect actions in the same browser, such as opening a recommendation and later creating an account. It does not store your email address, Supabase user ID, raw searches, DNF details, full Compass profile or precise personal fit score in analytics. You can turn this off below; turning it off does not affect Compass, saved books or account features.

Anonymous product analytics

Choose whether Fantasy Book Compass may collect anonymous product events to improve guides, recommendations and the Compass flow.

With your analytics consent, clicking “Find this book” records the public book identifier and retailer name, not a purchase or the search URL. These ordinary external links work without analytics consent. No analytics journey or account identifier is sent to the retailer.

When you use an account, Supabase also stores a strictly necessary authentication session in the browser so you remain logged in and your data can be synchronized. Cloudflare may use strictly necessary security or delivery mechanisms.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, object to processing, and receive a portable copy. Account holders can permanently delete their account and private Compass from the account page. You may also use the contact form and select “Privacy request”, or complain to your local data-protection authority.

Children

The site includes books for different audiences but is not designed to collect personal information from children. Anyone under 13 should not create an account or submit the contact form without involvement from a parent or guardian.

External links and policy changes

Book profiles and articles link to external websites with their own privacy practices. Material changes to this policy will be published here with a revised effective date.

Legal note: This policy is intended to describe the site's current data practices in plain language. It should be reviewed by a qualified privacy professional as the service adds analytics, advertising, newsletters, payments or other data processing.
