Earth's survivors enter an alien dungeon where deadly game mechanics turn suffering into entertainment.
When nearly every human structure is destroyed, survivors can remain above ground or enter a dungeon designed by alien owners. Carl enters in minimal equipment with Donut, whose transformation into a speaking player gives the story its defining relationship.
